There was a 25% increase in the number of tourists within the first two months, plummeting up to 350,000 tourists.

The number of tourist arrivals within the first two months has increased significantly compared to last year.

According to the tourism ministry, the number of tourist arrivals last year was 280,776. And the year before, it was 188,985. However, the number of of tourist arrivals during February and march this year have increased comparatively, summing up to a total of 350,413.

China is one of the biggest tourist markets in the Maldives. Their arrivals decreased due to covid 19. Recently, China has opened their borders after Covid-19 and direct flights from China to Maldives have also increased. This resulted in an increased amount of Chinese tourist arrivals this year which led to Maldives being on the top 10 list of most tourist arrivals in a destination.

Prior to covid, China was the largest tourism market in the Maldives. However, Russia has recently taken their spot at first place. India, UK, Italy and Germany have also secured a significant spot in the list.

There have been 44,748 tourist arrivals from Russia within January and February of 2023.
