Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, in collaboration with partners, proudly hosted an exclusive launch event in Beijing to announce its new routes to China, set to commence in January 2025.
Marking the airline’s introduction of A330-200 wide-body aircraft, the event brought together key stakeholders from the Maldives and China, fostering collaboration and strengthening ties between the China roadshow two nations to elevate the tourism and travel sectors.
The launch event was honoured by the presence of the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Capt. Mohamed Ameen, attended by leading travel agents, industry representatives, and media partners. The event highlighted the strategic importance of the new routes and their potential to drive tourism and business travel from the Chinese market.
Speaking at the event, the Minister highlighted the significance of this milestone “The launch of these new routes with A330 wide-body aircraft is a testament to the strong partnership between the Maldives and China. China has been a key tourism market for us, and these flights will strengthen connectivity, foster collaboration, and contribute to the growth of our tourism sector.”
“With the introduction of the A330-200, we are thrilled to announce the launch of direct flights from Malé to Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. These routes will offer enhanced comfort, convenience, and efficiency for our passengers. We have tailored our onboard experience to cater to the preferences of Chinese travellers, including Mandarin-speaking crew and personalised catering and services. This route is a significant milestone as we deepen the connections between the Maldives and China.” said Mr. Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Island Aviation Services during his opening remarks at the event.
The roadshow included a presentation highlighting the strategic importance of the new route and its potential to boost tourism and business travel from this region. The event also showcased the upcoming wide-body aircraft’s increased passenger capacity and extended range, which will greatly enhance Maldivian’s long-haul flight capabilities. Currently operating a fleet of 24 aircraft, including one A320, eight Dash 8 aircraft, eleven DHC-6 Twin Otters, and four ATRs, Maldivian is positioning itself to meet the growing demand for travel between the Maldives and key destinations globally.
