InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has announced the promotion of Ali Zain Shahuneem to Director of Rooms, a key leadership role that reflects not only his exceptional professional journey but also his growing influence as one of the region’s rising stars in luxury hospitality.
Hailing from Feydhoo in Addu City, Zain is a proud Maldivian and true homegrown talent, bringing with him a deep understanding of the culture, warmth, and nuances that make the Maldives a globally celebrated destination. His journey in the hospitality industry began with LUX* Resorts & Hotels, where he spent several years honing his expertise in guest experience, front office operations, and team leadership. His time with the luxury brand laid a solid foundation in high-end service and operational excellence—qualities that would define his trajectory in the Maldivian luxury hospitality space.
In 2019, Zain joined InterContinental Maldives as part of the pre-opening team, stepping into the role of Duty Manager. His contributions were instrumental in launching the resort and embedding its now-signature service culture. With each subsequent role—Assistant Front Office Manager, Front Office Manager, and most recently Rooms Division Manager—Zain demonstrated a steadfast commitment to excellence, team empowerment, and crafting memorable guest experiences.
Recognised across the resort and beyond for his ability to elevate service standards and inspire those around him, Zain now takes on the position of Director of Rooms. In this role, he will oversee both the Front Office and Housekeeping teams, bringing strategic vision, operational precision, and heartfelt Maldivian hospitality to one of the nation’s leading luxury resorts.
“Zain’s journey is a testament to the incredible potential of Maldivian talent. His growth, dedication, and leadership continue to inspire those around him,” said Mohamed Shihab, Area Director of Human Resources – Maldives. “We are proud to have nurtured his development and look forward to seeing the impact he will continue to make, both at InterContinental Maldives and within the wider IHG family.
