Atmosphere Core has announced the release of its latest sustainability report, Core Impact Report 2025, reaffirming its commitment to responsible hospitality through measurable action across its operations in the Maldives. The report captures a year of significant progress, reflecting the company’s continued focus on integrating sustainability into every aspect of its business, from energy and resource management to community engagement and environmental protection.
Published on Earth Day 2026, the report comes at a time when the global tourism industry is increasingly being called upon to demonstrate accountability and transparency. As travellers become more conscious of their environmental footprint, and destinations such as the Maldives face growing climate challenges, the role of hospitality brands in driving meaningful change has never been more critical. The Core Impact Report positions Atmosphere Core within this evolving landscape, where sustainability decisions are consolidated, reassessed, and guided by data, with clearer and more measurable outcomes.

Over the past year, the report outlines Atmosphere Core’s notable progress in expanding its use of renewable energy, generating 7.9 million kilowatt-hours of solar power, which now contributes to 13 percent of its total energy demand. Supported by initiatives such as waste-to-value systems, including the conversion of 140 tonnes of organic waste into biogas energy, these efforts have contributed to savings of more than 2.1 million litres of diesel and the avoidance of over 5,700 tonnes of carbon emissions, demonstrating a practical and scalable approach to circular resource management.
The report also highlights continued progress in reducing single-use plastics across the company’s portfolio of nine resorts, with these initiatives delivering strong, measurable results. To date, over 2.1 million plastic bottles and 1.48 million plastic straws have been eliminated across the portfolio. This is further supported by a centralised sourcing model that enhances operational efficiency while minimising waste, reinforcing the company’s ongoing commitment to responsible supply chain practices.

Coral restoration remains a core environmental priority across Atmosphere Core resorts, with ongoing investments in marine conservation delivering tangible impact. To date, more than 16,600 coral fragments have been planted across 360 reef frames, contributing to the regeneration of fragile marine ecosystems.
Complementing these efforts, the Atmosphere Foundation — a non-profit, non-governmental organisation and the company’s dedicated corporate social responsibility arm — continues to expand its impact through 26 projects supporting education, livelihoods, and long-term community resilience. Among these is its flagship nationwide bamboo-planting initiative, with over 3,700 plants established across 45 locations, aimed at strengthening climate resilience and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

At Atmosphere Core, sustainability is not treated as a standalone initiative but is embedded across all aspects of the business. This integrated approach reflects a broader industry shift, as tourism accounts for a growing share of global emissions and stakeholders increasingly demand tangible progress. Commenting on the report, Salil Panigrahi, Co-Founder & Managing Director – Atmosphere Core, said, “At Atmosphere Core, sustainability is not a parallel initiative; it is fundamental to how we operate and grow. The Core Impact Report reflects our commitment to moving beyond reducing impact to creating lasting value for our communities and ecosystems. As we look ahead, our focus remains on scaling these efforts in a meaningful way, ensuring that each of our resorts contributes to a more resilient and regenerative future.”
As Earth Day continues to emphasise the importance of collective climate action, the Core Impact demonstrates how hospitality can play a transformative role by aligning business performance with environmental and social responsibility. Through continued innovation and collaboration, Atmosphere Core remains committed to delivering experiences that not only delight guests but also contribute positively to the destinations it calls home.
