According to Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen, authorities have been actively engaging additional airlines after several operators temporarily halted flights due to regional instability. At the peak of the disruption, approximately 18 to 19 flights were cancelled. However, major Middle Eastern carriers such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad Airways have since reinstated their services, alongside the return of flydubai and Air Arabia.

Flynas is expected to begin its Maldives operations on May 3, operating routes from Riyadh and further expanding the list of airlines serving the destination. Meanwhile, Beond is also planning to roll out its charter programme in August.

The minister highlighted that while the regional situation has had widespread effects, both airline activity and tourist arrivals to the Maldives have remained resilient. Certain carriers, including Aeroflot and Turkish Airlines, have even increased flight frequencies in recent weeks.

At present, the majority of air services to the Maldives originate from Asia, accounting for 16 airlines, followed by 13 European operators and six based in the Middle East.

The addition of new airlines, along with the return of previously suspended routes, is expected to strengthen overall connectivity as the aviation sector continues adapting to evolving regional conditions.
