The Maldives has started to issue on-arrival visas to Chinese citizens following the visa-free agreement that was signed between the two countries last year. Despite being signed last year, the agreement was not enforced due to China's COVID-19 pandemic measures. The on-arrival visa scheme officially took effect on February 17th, 2023, allowing Maldivian citizens to receive a 30-day visa upon arrival in China, and vice versa. However, it's worth noting that a visa must be obtained in advance for individuals who plan to work, conduct business, or engage in journalism activities. Additionally, China and the Maldives have initiated other projects to strengthen their bilateral ties.
