MMPRC: Unveiling Addu City’s Tourism Trajectory

CEO & MD of MMPRC, Ms. Fathmath Thaufeeq has mentioned that Addu City is an exceptional destination in the Maldives Islands with a lot of potential for advancement in tourism. She mentioned this while giving the opening remarks for the preliminary meetings held for South Symposium 2024 hosted by South Palm Maldives resort and Canareef resort Maldives, Addu city yesterday.

Preliminary meetings, held between MMPRC, Tourism Ministry and Addu City stakeholders on 4th April at South Palm Maldives, to initiate preparations for the South Region Symposium to be scheduled later this year. MMPRC MD emphasised that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s dedication to sustainable tourist development in the Southern Maldives is in line with this event. These meetings are meant to foster the kind of productive collaborations between stakeholders and authorities that are essential to the long-term growth of Addu City and the region’s tourism industry.

The MD of MMPRC stated that, going forward, Gan International Airport will serve as a beneficial domestic hub for a greater number of tourists to visit Addu City and nearby atolls, reflecting the government’s comprehensive efforts.

Ms Fathmath Thaufeeq pointed out that MMPRC wants to promote local tourism significantly so that people of Addu City acquire the positive aspects of tourism from Maldives grown Industry appeal on the international markets. MMPRC will take into account the discussions of the meetings in order to develop a unique marketing approach aimed to promote local tourism in the southern provinces. Not just Addu City, but Gaaf Dhaal Atoll, Gaaf Alif Atoll, and Fuvamulah as well.

Given that tourism is one of Maldives highest income generating sectors, any advancements in this field benefit both the nation and its citizens. Consequently, the nation’s development is aided by the efforts of all industry participants who promote tourism.
