S7 Airlines, Russia’s largest privately owned airline, is set to expand its Maldives operations with the introduction of a new direct service from Novosibirsk to Velana International Airport. The route represents the first regular Maldives service by a Russian carrier from a Russian city outside Moscow.

Beginning 30 October, S7 Airlines will operate the route twice a week, with flights scheduled on Mondays and Fridays. The service will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft, establishing a direct connection between Novosibirsk and the Maldives.

The new route has been confirmed by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) as part of wider efforts to broaden the country’s international air connectivity and develop additional feeder markets. Supporting the launch, Russian tour operator TEZ TOUR has also introduced dedicated holiday packages, including accommodation discounts of up to 50 percent for travellers who book early.

The announcement comes following a recent visit to Russia by Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen. During the visit, the Minister stated that seven more airlines are expected to begin operating services to the Maldives during the fourth quarter of 2026.

Russia continues to rank among the Maldives’ most important international tourism markets. A total of 222,796 Russian visitors have arrived in the country this year, accounting for 14.7 percent of overall tourist arrivals and highlighting the potential importance of the new Novosibirsk connection for strengthening travel between the two destinations.
