The Maldives has begun the bidding process for 15 new resort developments

The tourism ministry requested proposals Monday for 15 different islands and lagoons for tourism development.

The following are on the ministry’s list:

  • H.A. Alidhuffarufinolhu
  • H.A. Medhafushi
  • H.Dh. Kudafarufasgandu
  • 10 hectares of land reclaimed from R. Etthigili and R. Alifushi lagoon
  • Part of K. Kaashidhoo lagoon
  • M. Boahuraa
  • F. Nilandhoo lagoon area -1
  • F. Nilandhoo lagoon area -2
  • Th. Olhufushi (with Olhufushi sandbank)
  • Th. Olhufushi Finolhu
  • G. A. Beyrumauddu
  • G. A. Funadhoovillingiyya
  • G. Dh. Haadhuaa
  • G. Dh. Kalhehuttaa
  • G. Dh. Fereythavilingili along with other islands nearby; are Dhekaanbaa, Koderata, and another small island

According to the tourism ministry’s announcement, the islands will cost between $200,000 and $2.3 million to acquire.

Accordingly:

The highest reserve price is $ 2.3 million for 20 hectares of property from Nilandhoo lagoon.

The reserve price for H.Dh. Kudafarufasgandu is the lowest; the reserve price for the 1.20-hectare island is $200,000
The state is estimated to collect $12.4 million in purchase cost income if the 15 announced properties are leased even at the lowest price.

The information session for people interested in bidding for these islands will be held via Zoom on the 5th and 6th of February at 10 a.m.

The following are the bid submission deadlines:

  • Atolls of Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Raa, and Kaafu: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28.
  • Islands on the atolls of Meemu, Faafu, and Thaa: 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29.
  • Islands in the Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls: Tuesday, March 30 at 10 a.m.

The ministry claims that:
