Island Aviation has announced that on February 18^th they will be opening Lhaviyani Madivaru Airport and commencing with the operations. The airport will be opened by President of the Maldives, Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The managing director of Island Aviation has stated that they have planned to operate 3-4 flights to Madivaru Airport and have highlighted that it is an airport that has the potential since many resorts and local islands high in population are located near the Airport. The Maldives Government signed an agreement with Kuredu Holdings/Crown and Champa Resorts on 29^th of May in 2018, where it was agreed that the construction of the establishment will be done within 2 years. The construction of the Madivaru Airport was commenced by Chinas BUCG, the same company that built and have been involved with other works of the Male’ Velana International Airport.
