Owner Hotel Properties Limited (HPL) has announced the return of respected hotelier Andrew Drummond as General Manager of Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives, where he will lead the resort through one of the most significant milestones in its more than 40-year history.
Drummond's return comes as HPL prepares to usher in a new era for the resort. Following the conclusion of its management agreement with InterContinental Hotels Group on 30 September 2026, the property will relaunch as Kandooma Maldives, operated HPL Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Hotel Properties Limited.
His appointment reflects HPL's confidence in his ability to lead the resort through this transition while building on Kandooma's reputation as one of the Maldives' most loved island escapes. Having previously led the resort, Drummond combines an intimate understanding of the island and its loyal guest community with extensive experience in resort operations, strategic planning and change leadership. That experience will ensure the transformation ahead is delivered with precision, allowing guests to continue enjoying exceptional holidays throughout.
Central to that transformation is Kandooma Next Chapter, a carefully staged island-wide enhancement programme that will refresh accommodation, elevate guest facilities and introduce new experiences, all while preserving the relaxed atmosphere, warm hospitality and authentic character that have defined Kandooma for decades.
"It is incredibly special to return to Kandooma at such an important moment," said Drummond.
"Kandooma has a unique spirit created by its people, its guests and its incredible natural surroundings. Returning to lead the resort through this next chapter is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity."
Though tight-lipped on the detail, Drummond said every aspect of the enhancement programme has been designed with the guest experience at its heart.
"Our priority is ensuring guests continue to enjoy the memorable holidays they expect from Kandooma while we invest in the resort's future. Every stage has been carefully planned around the guest journey, with works thoughtfully sequenced to minimise disruption and maintain the relaxed island experience our guests value.
Known for his collaborative leadership style, Drummond has built a reputation for bringing people together and developing high-performing teams through periods of change. His appointment offers continuity for employees, confidence for industry partners and reassurance for returning guests as the resort enters its next phase of growth.
The resort will remain fully operational throughout the enhancement programme and continue welcoming guests as normal. Further announcements on the Kandooma Maldives brand, new guest experiences and the resort's redevelopment will follow in the lead-up to its official launch on 1 October 2026.
