The Maldives tourism sector witnessed a leadership transition as Champa Hussain Afeef, a respected entrepreneur with long-standing involvement in the industry, took on the role of Chairperson at the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).
Afeef, who has previously served as Vice- Chairperson, was formally appointed during MATI’s 26th Annual General Meeting, which took place at Kurumba Maldives. His extensive experience in tourism business management, including his role as a shareholder and leader of Crown Company, positioned him to guide the association during a period of growth and strategic planning.
Since its founding in 1982, MATI had acted as the Maldives premier body representing resorts, travel businesses, and other stakeholders. Under Afeef’s chairmanship, the association aimed to strengthen collaboration among industry players and sustainable practices. Continuing to shape the policies that supported the country’s economic mainstay.
His appointment occurred during a time when the Maldives was expanding its global tourism presence. Focusing on innovation, high-quality service, and long-term industry development. Afeef’s background provided assurance that MATI would continue to be a central voice for the nation’s tourism ambitions.
