Shangri-La’s Villingilli Resort is Set to Reopen By The End of The Year 2025

The Government of Maldives has announced the long-awaited reopening of Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort, Addu City. The resort is set to reopen by 31st December 2025, following extensive discussions between the Government, Addu Investments Private Limited, and other relevant stakeholders to address the resort's extended closure.

First opened in 2009, Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort has been a significant part of Addu City’s economy, contributing to local livelihoods and boosting connectivity through Gan International Airport. Before the closure, the resort employed more than 500 staff and was a key driver of regional employment.

The Government highlighted that the reopening will bring renewed economic and social benefits to Addu City. which will strengthen tourism diversification across the Maldives, this will also help in supporting the Government's vision of expanding tourism opportunities beyond the central region, therefore promoting development in outer atolls.

Appreciation was also extended to Shangri-La’s management and Addu Investments Private Limited by the Government, for their commitment to resuming operations at this landmark property.
