President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has merged the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy with the Ministry of Tourism, establishing the new Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Thoriq Ibrahim has been appointed as its minister.
The appointment ceremony was held this afternoon at the President’s Office. Before assuming office, Thoriq Ibrahim was sworn in by Chief Justice Hon. Uz Ahmed Muthasim Adnan. Following the oath, President Dr Muizzu presented him with the ministerial appointment letter.
After the formal proceedings, President Dr Muizzu met with Minister Thoriq Ibrahim to discuss the ministry’s direction. He underscored the strategic importance of integrating environmental stewardship with tourism promotion, highlighting the Maldives' natural heritage as a key pillar of its tourism sector.
