Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon, a pioneer in sustainable hospitality
The hospitality industry and travel trade have embraced sustainability, with increasing numbers of travelers concerned about the environment, climate change, and local communities. Hospitality brands worldwide are adopting sustainable approaches, and a Sustainable Travel Report from booking.com has shown that the majority of global travelers intend to stay in sustainable properties and travel more sustainably in the coming year.
Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts has made sustainability a cornerstone of its business and continuously strives to set new benchmarks for sustainability while incorporating core values such as compassion, inclusivity, empowerment, and diversity. Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon, managed by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, is one of its properties that is taking sustainability seriously. The resort has implemented several initiatives, such as reducing plastic usage, producing organic fruits and vegetables, and conserving coral reefs.
To reduce plastic usage, the resort has replaced plastic bottles with refillable, customized drinking water bottles and replaced plastic bags with hand-made paper bags. The resort also produces tote bags made from damaged umbrellas found within the property. The resort has also introduced a “Farm to Plate” initiative to produce fresh fruits and vegetables using composting and wastewater, working closely with the local community to recycle coconut palm leaves.
To conserve coral reefs, the resort has placed artificial Reef Cubes made from crushed glass to increase fish population around the property and regularly conducts reef and beach clean-ups for guests. The resort has also implemented sustainable practices such as using solar power and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
Sustainability is deeply embedded in the DNA of Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts, and Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon is committed to making a real difference by driving an eco-friendly change and delivering value to its guests, people, and the planet. The resort remains focused on its current sustainability initiatives and has future projects planned to draw attention to the conservation of coral reefs, marine life, and ocean literacy, while creating greater awareness on various issues related to sustainability and well-being.
