Ifuru Island Maldives is proud to announce the appointment of Marcel Sawyer as the new General Manager, effective August 2024.

A distinguished Swiss national with a robust career spanning 18 years in luxury hotel management, Marcel brings an exceptional blend of expertise, innovation, and passion for guest satisfaction to his new role.

Marcel holds a Master Certificate in Hotel Management from Cornell University, which provides a solid academic foundation for his extensive managerial experience. He has successfully overseen the pre-opening of four hotels across Asia, demonstrating his capability in launching new properties and establishing operational excellence. His accolades include being named Best Hotel General Manager in China by Menduner Character Awards in July 2021 and receiving the Outstanding Hotel Foreign General Manager of the Year Award for Leadership from the Fashion List Awards in 2019. Additionally, he was honored as the most BOLD & Innovative Hotel Manager within the Wharf Hotel Group in 2018, reflecting his ability to drive innovation within the hospitality industry.

Marcel’s leadership has also been pivotal in winning the Annual Best Employer of Tourism & Hospitality Industry Award in Southern China from VeryEast.com for 2018-19. He was recognized as the most active General Manager in Bangkok and led the Pathumwan Dusit Princess to win “Best Hotel Bangkok” in 2011, showcasing his dedication to excellence in service and management.
