Scientist Gibbs Kuguru Returns to The Ritz-Carlton, Maldives

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, is thrilled to announce the return of National Geographic Explorer and esteemed Kenyan shark scientist, Gibbs Kuguru. His forthcoming residency, scheduled to take place from October 1 to 5, 2023, promises an intriguing fusion of shark conservation research, educational initiatives, and unforgettable experiences for guests.

Kuguru’s residency forms an integral part of The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands’ ‘Visiting Heroes’ program, which places a strong emphasis on environmental education and sustainability. During his stay, guests will have the extraordinary opportunity to engage in a variety of activities, ranging from exhilarating shark snorkeling expeditions to interactive Q&A sessions with Kuguru himself.

Kuguru’s residency will commence on Monday, October 2, with a captivating Shark Presentation held during afternoon tea at La Locanda. Here, he will impart insights from his research, providing guests with a glimpse into the captivating world of these incredible creatures.

The excitement continues on October 3rd, when guests can embark on a shark snorkeling adventure, followed by a relaxed cocktail hour at Beach Shack.

The following day, Kuguru will journey to the nearby island of Gaafaru to meet and educate young students about marine life, sharks, and wildlife conservation.

The residency culminates with one last snorkeling session just before Kuguru’s departure.

Gibbs Kuguru has earned acclaim for his expertise in studying various shark species, including Great White Sharks, Hammerheads, and Sand Tigers. His work aims to illuminate how these creatures adapt and survive in the face of challenges such as overfishing and climate change.
