Dusit Thani Maldives’ Earth Day Celebration Triumphs with Marine Conservation Activities

Dusit Thani Maldives, a luxurious resort situated in Baa Atoll, recently celebrated Earth Day on April 22, 2023, in collaboration with Ocean Dive Centre, a renowned organization for scuba diving, water sports, and marine conservation. The resort’s Earth Day celebration was designed to promote sustainability and environmental awareness, aligning with this year’s Earth Day theme of “Invest in Our Planet.”

The guests of the resort were offered a range of activities, including reef cleaning, earth paper craft for kids, and coral seeding for families. These activities aimed to provide an unforgettable and educational experience that supported marine conservation and sustainable tourism in the Maldives.

One of the most successful activities was the reef cleaning activity, which resulted in guests collecting over 42 KG of debris from the local reef. This activity helped to protect the local ecosystem and educated guests about the importance of keeping the ocean clean.

The earth paper craft activity was particularly popular with children, who learned about the importance of reducing waste and recycling while creating unique crafts from recycled materials. Families also enjoyed the coral seeding activity, where they had the opportunity to work alongside the resort’s resident marine biologist to plant new coral fragments in the ocean. This activity aims to restore damaged coral reefs and support local marine life.

Reinhold Johann, the General Manager of Dusit Thani Maldives, expressed his excitement about the success of their Earth Day celebration and partnership with Ocean Dive Centre. He also highlighted the resort’s commitment to sustainability and the preservation of the Maldives’ natural beauty for future generations.

In addition to the Earth Day celebration, Dusit Thani Maldives has implemented several eco-friendly practices, such as the installation of solar panels, composting, and a rainwater collection system. These initiatives aim to reduce the resort’s environmental impact while providing guests with an authentic and sustainable Maldivian experience.
