Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa Hosts Special Ramadan Event for Fiyavathi Orphanage
Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa has demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by hosting an Iftar giveback session for over 50 underprivileged children and their caretakers from Fiyavathi, a state care facility located at Hulhumale for orphanage children. The event, which took place on Friday, 7 April 2023 at the resort’s Jalsaa Hall, was attended by the resort’s associates and management.
The event was a warm and welcoming affair, with the resort’s associates greeting the children with smiles and gifts. Traditional Ramadan delicacies, including biryani, kebabs, and various sweets reflective of Maldivian and Indian cuisines, were served to the children.
The initiative aligns with Marriott’s 2025 sustainability and social goals, committing to creating positive and sustainable impacts wherever the company does business. According to Mohamed El Aghoury, General Manager of the resort, the resort has a unique opportunity to do more for the local community in the Maldives, not just by hosting an annual iftar dinner, but through continuous efforts. Last year, the resort raised funds to help improve part of the facilities where the children and youth are housed, and there is still much work to be done.
Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa has taken on several sustainability initiatives, including the recent cultivation of a “trash zone” that has now produced its first harvest of watermelons. The resort has also eliminated all use of plastic, including straws, bottles, and toiletries, and replaced them with paper straws, refillable glass bottles, and ceramic amenity holders. The resort is also a pioneer in scalable coral propagation efforts, with over 20,000 corals grown since its launch in 2020.
