In celebration of World Tourism Day 2026, Barceló Nasandhura Malé welcomed an eager cohort of BTEC Travel & Tourism students and educators from Thaajuddin School on 28 September for an exclusive, hands-on exposure visit. Perfectly aligned with this year’s global theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” the immersive event offered the next generation of hospitality professionals a rare, behind-the-scenes look into the sophisticated technologies powering modern Maldivian tourism.
This initiative directly reflects Barceló Hotel Group’s core strategic commitment to Digitisation—one of its four foundational pillars alongside Sustainability, People, and Results-Oriented Management. By leveraging technology to drive operational efficiency, enhance guest experiences, and empower employees, Barceló continues to structure its global expansion around digital innovation.

The morning commenced with an engaging welcome address by Hotel Manager Enric, who traced the remarkable evolution of Maldivian hospitality and highlighted the growing role of smart innovation. Students were then guided on an extensive experiential tour across key operational departments. Led by respective Department Heads, the cohort discovered how digital tools streamline efficiency across Commercial, Front Office, Housekeeping, Laundry, Engineering, and culinary operations—a walkthrough punctuated by a vibrant live cooking demonstration in the hotel’s state-of-the-art kitchen.

The afternoon drew to an interactive close with a spirited Q&A panel, where students posed probing questions to Department Heads, followed by an inspiring closing address from Deputy Manager Narek on the boundless possibilities awaiting young talent in travel tech.
"Technology and artificial intelligence are exceptionally powerful tools, but they truly shine only when paired with authentic human warmth," said Hotel Manager Enric. "It was an absolute privilege to host the talented students of Thaajuddin School. We hope this experience sparks a lifelong passion for innovation and empowers these bright young minds to shape the future of Maldivian hospitality."
