Some holidays become reference points in a relationship. For Frank and Heike Reestorff, a return to Villa Nautica became the place to mark 25 years together with a wedding ceremony unlike the one they might have imagined when their story began: underwater in North Malé Atoll.

It was the couple's third stay on the island. During their previous visit in November, while diving with diveOceanus, they mentioned an idea for their anniversary return. They wanted a small underwater wedding at a shallow site, with a few simple boards carrying the ceremony phrases. That conversation became the starting point rather than a package to follow.

The team chose Maagiri Reef, settling on a sandy area along the top reef where the wedding party could gather comfortably. A heart-shaped frame marked the ceremony space and a ring of rising bubbles was created around it. The wooden plaques were engraved in German, turning a practical part of an underwater ceremony into one of its most personal details.

The guest list shaped the preparation too. Frank and Heike's son and his girlfriend would join them, along with two close friends who had never scuba-dived.
