The ultra-private hotel group will open its first resort in the archipelago in 2028, bringing 52 keys, 16 island residences and a dedicated wellness island to the remote Vaavu Atoll.

Aman has confirmed that its first Maldivian property, Amanolu, will open in 2028 in the Vaavu Atoll, one of the country's quietest and least developed corners.

A name rooted in stillness

The name pairs "Aman", the Sanskrit word for peace, with "Olu", a nod to the water lily. It is a fitting emblem. The water lily floats on calm water and has long stood for serenity and renewal, which is precisely the mood Aman intends to cultivate here. The Maldives supplies the tranquillity; Aman adds its signature brand of calm, restrained luxury.

Designed by a trusted hand

Amanolu has been designed by Kerry Hill Architects (KHA), one of Aman's longest-standing collaborators and the studio behind several of the group's most celebrated properties. KHA has approached the Maldives' distinctive geography with the restraint and simplicity that define its work. Architecture and landscape are designed as one, dissolving the boundary between inside and out so the sea is always part of the experience. The palette draws on the atoll itself: white coral beaches, luminous turquoise lagoons and low, uncluttered island landscapes.

An intimate resort, spread across islands

In keeping with Aman's preference for small scale, the resort will offer just 52 guest accommodations. Rather than concentrating everything on a single island, Amanolu spreads its experiences across the atoll. A dedicated wellness island will house an expansive Aman Spa along with the brand's signature Spa Houses, while a separate activity island will be given over to recreation and exploration.

The Vaavu Atoll is well known among divers for its reefs and marine life, and Amanolu plans to make the ocean part of everyday life, with diving, snorkelling, watersports and marine excursions on offer. Guests can also look forward to several dining venues, including Aman's global culinary concepts, as well as family facilities and communal gathering spaces.

Sixteen homes, sixteen private islands

The headline feature is the collection of 16 Aman Residences, each occupying its own private island and designed around space, privacy and nature. The islands are positioned to make the most of the shifting light. Some face a single shoreline, framing either the sunrise or the sunset, while select islands run from coast to coast, with beaches on both sides and views that follow the sun from morning to evening.

Each residence is conceived as a personal retreat, with five bedrooms and generous indoor and outdoor living areas that open onto a private beach. Every home comes with a 25-metre (82-foot) swimming pool, a personal boat berth and dedicated staff accommodation. Owners will not be cut off from the wider resort, though. They will have full access to Amanolu's restaurants, wellness offering and activities, including the wellness and activity islands, all backed by the attentive, personalised service Aman is known for. It is private island living with an Aman resort on the doorstep.

Amanolu marks a significant moment for both the brand and the destination. For Aman, it fills one of the most conspicuous gaps on its map.
