The mission of the LIV Hospitality Design Awards is to celebrate the quality and diversity of architectural ventures and interior design projects shaping the worldwide hospitality industry today. The program was launched in 2020 and is an inclusive platform, that pursues and rewards exceptional projects within LIVING and EATING spaces.

And SO/ Maldives has won the Architectural Design Resort – Luxury.

The SO/ Maldives is inspired by the glamour of the fashion world. Guests are celebrated and glamourized, becoming models, partaking in a seen-and-be-seen architectural catwalk that connects the public areas of the island.

Set on a pristine private island surrounded by the captivating Emboodhoo Lagoon, SO/ Maldives perfectly blends the worlds of castaway tranquillity and runway elegance. The journey begins at arrival, where guests are welcomed by a breathtaking over-water pavilion that sets the visual tone of the resort. Clean lines, cool neutrals, and natural wood create a sophisticated backdrop, complemented by vibrant accents and a sculptural red-latticed central staircase. The sculptural central core winds up the Lobby Bar to the Specialty Restaurant on the upper level. Guests circulate through this vertical runway to enjoy the sunset view from either the Bar or the Restaurant. The hotel’s unique walkways are adorned with billowing fabrics or architectural timber canopies, providing a captivating contrast to the lush natural flora of the island and evoking the dramatic styling seen in high fashion presentations.
