‘Savaadheeththa Dhathuru’ is a sailing event organized by the Maldives Integrated Tourism Corporation (MITDC) which invites Yachtsmen from across the globe to participate in a journey across the Maldives seas, making stops at local islands, exploring the heritage, experiencing famous dive sites, sandbanks etc.  The third edition of the rally began on 10th February 2024 from the Kaafu Atoll, taking a course of 2 weeks to reach Gan in Seenu Atoll. 

The first stop of the rally is V. Fulidhoo. Known as being a centre for ocean adventures, V. Fulidhoo is one of the top spots for snorkelling and scuba diving trips. The famous “Langiri Jehun” dance, performed by men lined up, holding flower bouquets, and following a pattern of steps and bends to attract a woman, is another well-known tradition of the island. 

The day started off with the welcoming of the guests by the local community. Guests were given presents and welcome drinks upon arrival and their Savaadheeththa Passports were also stamped by the council. 

Afterwards, the participants were given a tour of the island. They were taken to locations such as the Nikagas Tree (an old tree residing in the island), the island’s School, Health Centre, Mosque, a Waste and Sewage Management area. 

The afternoon was dedicated to guests enjoying sea activities such as Water Sports and Sting Ray Seeing.  In the evening, there was a showcase of historical works of the Maldives as guests understood how the Maldivians of the past lived. 

There was a break for prayer time until 8:00 PM where a dinner night was held. The dinner consisted of traditional Maldivian food as guests were able to taste authentic Maldivian delicacies.  After an hour, the locals proceeded to put on a traditional music show for the guests as it consisted of Boduberu music. 

The activities concluded at around 10:00 PM as guests were taken to their vessels for the night.  After a day’s rest, participants set their sails onwards to the third destination of the rally, M. Muli.
