Oaga Art Resort: Open call for Local Artists to showcase work

Oaga Art Resort, a self-made local brand in the Maldives, has announced an open call for local artists and creatives to showcase artwork in their Veyoge Gallery Villas. Applications are open until 31 January 2024, offering a unique opportunity for Maldivian talent to venture into the hospitality industry. To make participation accessible, the application process has been streamlined, allowing interested creatives to submit their work online from anywhere in the world.

Since its debut in January 2023, Oaga Art Resort has captivated the world with its intimate concept of the Veyoge Gallery Pool Villas. These accommodations integrate art within their luxurious space, featuring artwork by nearly 40 local artists and 160 pieces thoughtfully adorning the walls during the past year. The resort is inviting fresh talent within this process, to curate a new collection for the year 2024.

Staying in a Veyoge Gallery Villa is more than just a luxurious getaway for travellers; it’s an immersive art experience. Guests have the privilege of living amongst stunning local artwork, with the opportunity to purchase pieces and take a piece of Maldivian creativity home.

“We’re so grateful to be able to offer a platform for local artists to showcase their work and potentially connect with art lovers from around the world,” says the team at Oaga Art Resort. “We also contribute $1 for each artwork displayed, for each night a guest stays in the Veyoge Gallery Villas. This is just one way we can show our appreciation for the incredible talent in the Maldives.”

The meticulous curation of art is entrusted to Suvāsthi Gallery, spearheaded by the talented team of in-house creatives. Drawing on experience from the past year, their in-house curator, Nadee highlights the challenges of pricing and sizing artwork for optimal appeal to guests. To address this, the open call provides clear guidelines on recommended dimensions and pricing strategies, ensuring artists get the best possible support for their submissions.

Suvāsthi Gallery regularly hosts Caravan exhibitions within the resort, allowing all guests within the island to appreciate the diverse collection. Additionally, local artists are regularly invited to stay on the island, fostering deeper connections and enriching the guest experience.

This open call is an invitation for established and aspiring Maldivian artists eager to share their vision and contribute to this unique concept. Applications are open until 31 January 2024. We encourage all eligible artists to submit their applications and take their rightful place in the heart of Oaga Art Resort.

Situated in North Malé Atoll, Oaga Art Resort is 45 minutes by speedboat from Malé International Airport.
