Maldivian, the national carrier operated by Island Aviation, has revealed its intention to secure financing for two additional ATR aircraft. The airline issued a tender and invited proposals for the finance lease of two ATR 42-600 aircraft. The lease order for these planes is in the final stages of confirmation.
As the Request for Proposal (RFP) outlines, one aircraft is expected to be delivered in the last quarter of this year, while the other is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. Interested parties have until July 22 to submit their proposals as the airline seeks suitable partners for this financing opportunity.
Adding more ATR aircraft to the fleet is part of Maldivian's ongoing efforts to replace its aging Dash-8 planes. This move aligns with the airline's strategy to modernize its fleet, enhance operational efficiency, and improve the passenger experience. Three ATR aircraft have already been introduced as part of this fleet modernization initiative, and the lease of two additional planes will further contribute to the carrier's goals.
In April, Maldivian announced the lease of five more ATR aircraft, highlighting its commitment to expanding fleet capacity and network reach. Additionally, in October of the previous year, the airline had revealed plans to lease an Airbus A123LR aircraft, although specific details about this lease are still undisclosed. Moreover, in February, the lease of two Airbus A330-200 aircraft was also announced, emphasizing the airline's strategic focus on diversifying its fleet and improving long-haul capabilities.
