MoU Signed Between the Maldives and Korea on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism

On 22nd March 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Government of Maldives and the Government of the Republic of Korea, during the visit of a Special Envoy and representatives of the Korean government to the Maldives at the Ministry of Tourism. The ceremony was attended by officials from the Korean Tourism Organization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Tourism.

The MoU was signed by the Minister of Tourism, Dr Abdulla Mausoom, on behalf of the Government of Maldives and Vice President of the Korean Tourism Organization, H.E Lee Jae-Hwan, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Korea. The signing of the MoU highlights the long-term relationship between both countries and the important role that the Korean market plays in the tourism industry of Maldives.

During the ceremony, Minister Dr Abdulla Mausoom emphasized the need for strengthening cooperation between the two countries through an exchange of knowledge and expertise in tourism planning and research. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation in human resource development as well as the investment opportunities in the tourism sector.

Prior to the signing of the MoU, Minister Dr Abdulla Mausoom met with H. E Lee Jin Bok, Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs of Korea, and discussed ways to further strengthen the close friendship and cooperation between both countries, especially in the field of tourism.

The signing of the MoU is expected to bring about numerous benefits for both countries. It will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise in tourism planning and research, which can help both countries in improving their tourism industry. It will also help in the development of human resources in the tourism sector, which can lead to the creation of more job opportunities. Additionally, it will help in attracting more Korean tourists to the Maldives, which will further boost the tourism industry of the country.
