MACL participates in the ICAO Asia/Pacific Aerodrome Assistance Working Group’s Fifth Meeting.
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) recently participated in the Fifth Meeting of the Asia/Pacific Aerodrome Assistance Working Group of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), held from March 13th to 16th, 2023 at Kurumba Maldives resort, which was hosted by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA).
During the meeting, MACL had the opportunity to showcase the developmental trajectory of Velana International Airport (VIA) and the various projects currently underway at the site. As part of this, MACL Aerodrome, in collaboration with Ground Aids and Airport Emergency Services, carried out an exercise on Marine Rescue Operations for the attendees during their visit to the airport. This exercise was conducted at the water aerodrome, which is home to the largest seaplane operations in the world.
The Regional Officer of Aerodrome and Ground Aids (AGA) of ICAO Asia and Pacific Regional Office (APAC), Dr. Punya Raj Shakya, as well as delegates from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), state members from Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, and Sri Lanka, airport operators from member states, and all airport and seaplane operators in the Maldives attended the exercise. The exercise served as an opportunity for MACL to demonstrate its commitment to safety and security in all operations at VIA.
Additionally, the participants also visited the newly opened Noovilu Seaplane Terminal, which is the largest of its kind in the world. The meeting helped MACL showcase its latest projects and efforts, further solidifying its positioning and dedication to providing world-class airport services at VIA.
MACL’s participation in the Fifth Meeting of the Asia/Pacific Aerodrome Assistance Working Group of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) was an excellent opportunity to showcase its commitment to safety and security and its latest projects and endeavors at VIA. The exercise on Marine Rescue Operations and the visit to the newly opened Noovilu Seaplane Terminal demonstrated MACL’s capabilities and dedication to providing world-class airport services at VIA.
