UK MasterChef winner Eddie Scott invited to prepare meals at Outrigger Maldives
Eddie Scott, the UK MasterChef 2022 champion, will be preparing special meals for two evenings at Outrigger Maldives Maafushivaru Resort during the second half of April 2023.
The UK MasterChef title holder will also host a special cooking session at the resort for anyone keen in learning how to cook.
Exact dates will be released shortly.
Eddie, 31, from Beverley, Yorkshire, won the prized TV title in May, with MasterChef judge John Torode describing him as a “culinary powerhouse.”
“I think we’ve just seen the birth of a future great chef,” stated fellow judge Gregg Wallace.
Eddie is currently employed at Gordon Ramsay’s three-star Michelin restaurant in London.
Eddie spent eight years as a Merchant Navy navigation officer traversing the world before becoming a marine pilot on the River Humber in northeast England in 2017.
He has only been cooking full-time since blasting to the top of MasterChef UK in May.
Chef Eddie draws inspiration from his love of classic French cuisine and frequently surprises customers by incorporating Indian culinary flavors, a talent he learnt from his Punjabi grandparents. His father also prepared fascinating delicacies like Mexican chimichangas and unique Indian curries. His mother passed on her love of baking to him. Eddie is a big fan of Royal Mughlai cuisine from northern India.
He gained French cooking skills through touring around France with his family, dining in local workers’ canteens and discovering fresh markets, then recreating the meals back in England.
“The way food was ingrained in French culture was a total revelation. I wanted to recreate the food I’d tasted and that’s how I really got into cooking,” he said.
By the age of 12, he was preparing classic French delicacies such as Tarte Tatin, Ile Flottante, Crème Brulée, and Gratin Dauphinois.
Eddie will develop special dishes for two events at Outrigger Maldives in the final half of April. He will also provide guests with a gourmet demonstration and hands-on cooking session.
Eddie will be exploring the Maldives for the first time. “I can’t wait to go and cook there. I’ve heard so much about the place,” he said. “The water there will be a bit different from the Humber. I look forward to trying the island’s fresh seafood.”
Christopher Long, the resort’s executive chef, met Eddie whilst visiting the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass in Beverley, Yorkshire, managed by James Mackenzie, who was also a guest chef at Outrigger Maldives in 2019.
“The three of us got talking,” said Chris, “and the idea was hatched for Eddie to do a guest chef stint in the Maldives with Outrigger.”
