With 18% of arrivals in 2023, the Russian tourist market has become the leading market
10,600 Russian visitors have arrived in the Maldives in the last ten days, making up 18% of all visitors this year so far, according to the Maldives Tourism Ministry.
With 200,000 visitors last year, Russia was the second-largest source of tourists for the Maldives, and it continues to be a significant market for the nation this year. With 7,700 travelers, Italy has also been a key source of tourism. This year, 5,100 people have traveled to the Maldives from India, which brought in the most tourists last year.
Over the past 10 days, an average of 5,300 tourists have arrived in the Maldives, a 14% increase over the same period last year. This year, the government hopes to bring in 2 million visitors.
As of December 31, 2022, 1,208 tourist lodging establishments, including hotels, resorts, guesthouses, safari vessels, and marinas, had a combined bed capacity of 59,657.
