The arrival of nine cruise liners this year is expected to boost tourism in the Maldives
According to the Maldives Association of Yacht Agency (MAYA), nine cruise lines are slated to arrive in the Maldives this year, attracting around 12,000 passengers.
These cruise ships will dock at Male’, Addu, and Haa Alif Atolls. The cruise liner industry, according to Tourist Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, is a significant emphasis for the Maldivian tourism and economic sectors, particularly because it may help companies in and around Male, the capital city.
According to the Tourism Minister, cruise liner passengers do not often spend the night at resorts or hotels since they have already planned to spend money on the cruise ship. “However, if the Maldives can offer appealing ways for these passengers to spend their money while in the country, it has the potential to increase revenue.” He added.
The largest of the nine cruise ships slated to come in the Maldives is the MS Costa Deliziosa, which has a capacity of 2,826 people and is due to arrive next month.
