This year Maldives will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee in the Tourism Industry, where there will be various activities and events on-going during the celebration. The one and only George Corbin made an appearance today at Velana International Airport, for the upcoming Maldives Golden Jubilee celebration. Tourism pioneer and health minister Kerafa Naseem, Tourism Minister Mausoom, a small team from Maldives Tourism Ministry and a team from Maldives Airports Company went to receive George Corbin. He was indeed given a warm welcome.

George Corbin is amongst one of those hands who helped Maldives to flourish in the Tourism industry when it first started. He is an Italian travel agent and was looking for uninhabited islands where he can accommodate Italians for fishing and swimming in the Maldives. He visited Maldives with Ahmed ‘Kerafa’ Naseem via a cargo ship in 1971, it was then George fell head over heels for the beauty of the Maldivian Islands. George Corbin again visited Maldives, bringing the very first bunch of tourists to the Maldives in February 1972. Ever since then Maldives has been looked at as “Paradise on earth” amongst travelers from all over the world.

An interactive discussion session regarding the 50 years Maldives Tourism Industry journey will be set where George Corbin will be joining along with tourism pioneers, including Mr. MU Manik, Mr.Hussain Afeef, and Mr.Ahmed Naseem in this discussion. The session will be held on this upcoming, 17^th of February at the Maldives National University Auditorium where students from all colleges, universities and schools are more than welcome to join. The registration for the session will start sometime in the upcoming week.
