From January 1st to January 12th, 2022, the Maldives received a total of 55,055 visitor arrivals. 4,588 daily arrivals have been registered for the current month of January, with a stay period of 9 days. Arrivals in January 2022 are up 52.9 percent over the same time in January 2021.
Although India was the main market for Maldives tourism in 2021, it now ranks fourth this year owing to rising COVID-19 incidents worldwide. Russia now controls the top tourist market in the Maldives, contributing for 20% of all tourist arrival thus far. Italy is second, having 7.8 percent, and the United Kingdom is third, with 5.6 percent. Among the major markets are India, Germany, Ukraine, the United States, France, Saudi Arabia, and Austria.
