A coral tree plantation event was held at OZEN Life Maadhoo on 07th of January!
OZEN Life Maadhoo’s resident Marine Biologist Oshin Joanna Christopher hosted a unique celebration as a part of the festive celebrations, which took place on 07th January at the Watersports Centre Beach. The guests were given the chance to attach coral pieces to a metal tree frame which was built using recycled materials, the kids also took part in this event where everyone who participated was given a certificate to mark the event.
Marine Biologist, Oshin says, “Our nurseries have ‘super corals’ and ‘reef-building corals’ that have withstood the bleaching events of 2016 naturally. We are using their resilient genetics to grow more resilient corals. Soon, we will add a concrete block reef near the spa beach to create a refuge for local fish species. Eventually, the fish will accept these blocks to be a part of the reef.”
After the event took place, the diving team at OZEN Life Maadhoo placed the coral tree underwater at the coral nursery located right behind M6m underwater restaurant, where guests can have a look at while dining!
