On 02^nd of January Sunday 2022, a new record was set by Velana International Airport for air traffic movement in a single day. They recorded a total of 826 air traffic movements, where there were 233 runway movements and 593 seaplane movements.

The previous movements recorded were 811 movements on 05^th January 2020 before air traffic slowed down and halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Arrivals have been at an all-time high during this peak season and New Year resulting in air traffic congestion at the airport as well.
