Flynas has restarted its scheduled services to Velana International Airport, re-establishing direct flights between Riyadh and Malé and further strengthening growing air links between Saudi Arabia and the Maldives.
The Saudi Arabian carrier will now operate three weekly flights connecting Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport with Velana International Airport. This renewed service adds additional seat capacity on a key route that supports the Maldives’ tourism sector, particularly from Middle Eastern markets that continue to play a significant role in visitor arrivals.
The inaugural flight under the resumed schedule, Flynas service XY245, landed at Velana International Airport on 20 June from Riyadh. Upon arrival, passengers were welcomed with a traditional Bodu Beru performance alongside a ceremonial water salute to mark the occasion.
To commemorate the occasion, passengers arriving on the first flight and those departing on the initial outbound service were presented with special tokens of appreciation.
The return of Flynas operations is expected to boost travel demand from Saudi Arabia while offering more convenient travel options between the Kingdom and the Maldives. The added services also strengthen the wider network of Middle Eastern airlines operating in the country, supporting both tourism growth and regional connectivity.
As the Maldives’ primary international gateway, Velana International Airport continues to expand its airline partnerships. Maldives Airports Company Limited noted its ongoing commitment to enhancing connectivity, improving passenger experience, and supporting the continued development of the nation’s aviation and tourism industries.
