Six Senses Kanuhura is proud to announce its title sponsorship of the Lhaviyani Turtle Festival 2026, signing on for the third time in a partnership that reflects the resort's deep and enduring commitment to the marine environment it calls home. The signing took place at Six Senses Kanuhura on World Ocean Day, June 8, a date that feels less like a coincidence and more like a statement.

Now in its eighth edition, the Lhaviyani Turtle Festival is the largest community marine outreach program outside in the Maldives, organized by the locally led NGO Naifaru Juvenile and the Atoll Marine Conservation Centre (AMC). The two-day festival, scheduled for September 2026, brings together school students, conservationists, government authorities, community members, and ocean lovers from across the Maldives to celebrate sea turtles and shine a light on the urgent need to protect them and the waters they call home. In 2025, the festival welcomed more than 3,000 attendees, 13 schools from seven different atolls, and over 20 organizations, a testament to how powerfully this event resonates across the country.

The Atoll Marine Conservation Centre, based on Naifaru Island in the Lhaviyani Atoll, has been rescuing and rehabilitating injured sea turtles since 2012. Founded by Naifaru Juvenile as a response to hatchlings being kept as pets on local islands, the centre has since expanded its focus to rescuing adult turtles entangled in ghost gear and suffering serious injuries, rehabilitating them to full health and releasing them back into the ocean. Beyond turtle care, AMC carries out coral restoration, community education, and a range of marine awareness initiatives that keep the Lhaviyani Atoll's ecosystems in the conversation they deserve to be in.

Six Senses Kanuhura's relationship with AMC runs deeper than a sponsorship agreement. Since the resort opened its doors in the Lhaviyani Atoll, it has supported AMC through the Six Senses Sustainability Fund, and today hosts a dedicated sea turtle biologist on property, contributing actively to the scientific and conservation work that makes the atoll one of the most important green sea turtle habitats in the Maldives. The turtles that guests spot from the shore or encounter on the house reef are, in no small part, a reflection of the work being done on both sides of this partnership.
As title sponsor, Six Senses Kanuhura is proud to play its part in bringing the Lhaviyani Turtle Festival to life, supporting an event that has grown into something far bigger than any single partner could create alone.

"Our partnership with AMC comes straight from the heart, because we believe that a resort is only as strong as the community it belongs to. Signing as title sponsor for the third time on World Ocean Day feels like the perfect way to reaffirm that commitment. Seeing schools, businesses, resorts, and local communities come together for this festival is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when we are all united by the ocean that connects us." — Alicia Graham, General Manager, Six Senses Kanuhura.
"Six Senses Kanuhura has been a long-time supporter in our mission, and their continued commitment and support means we can reach more schools, more communities, and ultimately rescue and rehabilitate more turtles. This is exactly the kind of partnership that gives conservation real roots." — Aideen McGinn, Marine Team Lead at Atoll Marine Conservation Centre.
