Qatar Airways has restarted its flights to the Maldives on Thursday after a temporary halt caused by disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict.

The suspension, which affected several routes across the region, had limited air travel options, particularly for passengers relying on transit through Doha. With operations now resuming, the airline will run five weekly flights between Maldives and Doha under an updated schedule, helping to restore vital international connections.

The return of these services is expected to improve travel reliability and gradually stabilize flight availability. While the earlier pause contributed to a brief dip in tourist arrivals, industry outlooks suggest a steady recovery as flight operations return to normal. The move is widely viewed as an encouraging sign for both the tourism sector and the wider economy of the Maldives.

In addition to passenger services, the reinstated flights are already benefiting cargo and trade activities. The first inbound flight transported 11 tonnes of goods needed in the local market, alongside 4,000 kilograms of export cargo. This renewed cargo capacity is set to support businesses by speeding up the delivery of perishable items and maintaining a consistent supply of fresh products, particularly for resorts.

During the disruption, travellers faced reduced transit options and scheduling uncertainties. The resumption of flights helps address these issues, while the airline has also introduced flexible ticketing arrangements, allowing passengers to adjust their bookings through June 15 if needed.

Travellers are encouraged to ensure their bookings are confirmed before departure, as flight schedules may still change depending on operational conditions. Qatar Airways continues to closely assess the situation and is working towards gradually expanding its services, with the possibility of adding more flights in the near future.

Overall, the resumption of flights is expected to strengthen transport links and support the continued recovery of the Maldives’ tourism industry. Qatar Airways’ current schedule will remain in place until April 15, after which the airline will review opportunities to further scale up its operations.
