The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) Holds its 36th Annual General Meeting

The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) held its 36th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 15th of February 2026 at Kurumba Maldives, with 112 members and key stakeholders from across the tourism industry in attendance.

The Annual General Meeting commenced with a welcome address by the Vice-Chairman of MATI, Mr. Hussain Afeef, followed by the delivery of the Secretary General’s statement by Mr. Ahmed Nazeer. A special segment was dedicated to honoring the legacy of the late Mr. Mohamed Umar Maniku, former Chairman of MATI, who was inducted as the first ever Member of Honour, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Tourism Industry of Maldives. The proceedings also included a video presentation highlighting MATI’s advocacy initiatives and key activities undertaken during 2025.

Members reviewed and passed several essential documents, including the minutes of the 35th Annual General Meeting, the 2025 Annual Report, and the Financial Reports for the year. The assembly also elected the Executive Board for the 2026–2029 term, approved the budget for 2026, and confirmed the appointment of auditors ( Faris & Co LLP - who are also the current auditors) for 2026.

A presentation was delivered by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment outlining their regulatory agenda and work plan for 2026, followed by a video presentation by MATI providing an overview of the tourism industry’s performance in 2025.

The latter half of the program included an open discussion session, allowing members to engage on key industry-related matters.

The AGM also included a welcome to new MATI members who joined the association since its last AGM. The meeting concluded with closing remarks by the newly elected Secretary General, Mr. Asad Ali, emphasizing the importance of collaboration, regulatory stability, and a supportive policy environment to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of the Maldivian tourism industry.
