Nobu Hospitality has unveiled plans for a major new luxury development in the Maldives, marking its first presence in this renowned island destination. The upcoming Nobu Hotel, Restaurant, and Residences will be situated on the private island of Munyafushi in Laamu Atoll, a partnership project with Sarat International.
This exceptional retreat will rise amid the Indian Ocean’s striking turquoise waters and immaculate stretches of sand. The resort’s accommodations will include 26 beach villas and 30 overwater villas, available in both one‑ and two‑bedroom layouts. Every villa will reflect Nobu’s distinct aesthetic — characterized by minimalistic design, natural materials, and a soothing palette that promotes comfort and privacy.
The most exclusive aspect of the development will be a limited set of just ten private island estates. Each of these residences will occupy its own individual island — a rare opportunity for private island ownership in the Maldives. Owners will have privileged access to all of Nobu’s hospitality services, dining venues, and resort facilities while enjoying unparalleled seclusion.
Inside each private island estate, residents can expect grand living spaces with high‑end bedrooms and bathrooms, pavilion‑inspired areas designed for entertaining, and direct beach access. These estates will also include their own yachts, allowing owners to easily explore the surrounding ocean. The homes are designed to provide sweeping, unobstructed views of the Indian Ocean.
Central to the property’s lifestyle offerings will be a Nobu restaurant located on its own private island. This dining venue will include a bar and lounge and will serve Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s celebrated blend of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine.
Beyond exceptional dining, the resort’s amenities will include a full‑service spa, contemporary fitness facilities, a dive center, tennis courts, event venues, and a signature main pool tailored for relaxation and social gatherings. Throughout the design and architecture, influences from Nobu’s Japanese heritage will be evident with bold forms, seamless flow, and integration with the island’s lush landscape and ocean backdrop.
Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, highlighted the brand’s commitment to creating something unique for the Maldives, emphasizing a focus on design, exceptional food and service, and environments that enhance the natural setting rather than follow predictable luxury hotel formulas.
Ali Ahsan, Managing Director of Sarat International, also expressed pride in the collaboration, noting that the project aims to redefine high‑end living in the Maldives by combining thoughtful architecture, craftsmanship, and Nobu’s globally recognized hospitality.
