An extraordinary black marlin, estimated at over 300 kilograms, makes history as the first and largest targeted trophy catch recorded on a Maldivian resort fishing trip.
The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, together with Dash Maldives, recently marked an unforgettable milestone during an exclusive VVIP guest fishing trip on 15th August 2025. The team successfully landed a black marlin of extraordinary proportions — measuring 13 feet 3 inches in length and estimated to weigh well over 300 kilograms.
For the guest and crew alike, this was no ordinary fishing adventure. The marlin, more than double the size of any previously landed by Dash Maldives, is believed — if the information is correct — to be the first and largest targeted trophy catch ever recorded during a resort fishing trip in the Maldives.
The sense of achievement carried from sea to shore. That evening, the marlin was showcased during cocktail hour at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, allowing fellow guests the rare opportunity to admire its size up close and capture photographs of the remarkable catch. At the guest’s request, the fish was then carefully preserved and later transported to their home country.
“After three years of exclusively targeting a big marlin, yesterday was truly historic for us,” said Captain Mohamed Almas. “Landing such a humongous black marlin — clearly beyond anything we’ve caught before — is a testament to the persistence, teamwork, and passion of Dash Maldives. Achievements like this allow us not only to honor our guests’ dreams but also to share in the joy of these once-in-a-lifetime moments.”
This remarkable catch now stands as both a celebration of sportfishing in the Maldives and a reminder of the extraordinary experiences that await those who pursue the thrill of the ocean.
