Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the state-owned operator of Velana International Airport, has appointed Aisha Nurain Janah as its new Chairperson. Nurain brings more than ten years of expertise in finance, corporate governance and strategy in areas including construction, tourism, etc.
Nurain steps into the new role at a transformative moment for MACL as the company approaches a significant milestone with the upcoming launch of its new international passenger terminal in July 2025. MACL recently unveiled multiple infrastructure projects including a new Code F runway, a modern seaplane terminal, and a VIP terminal, continuing to expand and elevate its services.
Nurain is also the founder of Kandūfā Foundation, an organization focused on the preserving of cultural heritage, climate action, and leadership development. Kandūfā Foundation aims at empowering women and youth by addressing the root causes of social and environmental challenges. She was also recognized for her leadership at the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders (YGL) Class of 2025.
Prior to this, Nurain has also served as Chairperson of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) from November 2023 to May 2024. She is also the Vice Chair of Hotels & Resorts Investment Maldives (HARIM), her family's legacy business.
